February 8, 2010 –Thursday February 11, 2010, marks the 20th anniversary of Mr Mandela’s release from 27-and-a-half years’ imprisonment.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation’s Centre of Memory and Dialogue is convening two community conversations in Durban and Port Elizabeth, on February 11, 2010, as part of its dialogue series to Promote Social Cohesion, and in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s release.
The programme seeks to identify and address the underlying causes of anger and frustration in communities affected by incidents of violence against non-nationals. Through facilitated community conversations, we hope to improve relations between host and migrant communities.
The programme works in partnership with local non-profit and community-based organisations and is currently being implemented in Gauteng, the Western Cape, the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.
