Sept 3, 2008 – The Nelson Mandela Foundation would like to draw the public’s attention to a proposal being sent out to various organisations nationally and internationally by a company called Topco Media, inviting paid participation in a Nelson Mandela tribute book.
This book has not been endorsed by any of the Nelson Mandela organisations.
“We wish to inform you that neither the Nelson Mandela Foundation nor its sister charities (the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund and the Mandela Rhodes Foundation) will benefit from or are associated with this venture,” said Achmat Dangor, CEO of the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
“Indeed, it directly competes with our ongoing fundraising initiatives, where all the proceeds go to charity, and with our efforts to safeguard against the exploitation of Mr Mandela’s name and image.”
