An email scam is doing the rounds, attempting to solicit personal information from people after informing them they have been selected to receive $500 000 from the Nelson Mandela Charity Organization.
There is no Nelson Mandela Charity Organization and there is no Nelson Mandela charity fund.
The scam is a phishing attempt. Phishing is the fraudulent practice of sending emails purporting to be from reputable companies and organisations in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers.
The Foundation warns against replying to any unsolicited email asking for personal information, regardless of which person or organisation it purports to come from.
