This afternoon the President and First Lady of France met with Mrs Graça Machel at the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory.
The First Lady, Ms Trierweiler, supports the Stand Up for African Mothers Campaign, which Mrs Machel promotes in her capacity as patron. Discussion about the campaign took place in what was Nelson Mandela’s personal office at the Centre of Memory.
After the discussion, Mrs Machel accompanied President Hollande and Ms Trierweiler on a guided tour of the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s Centre of Memory, including a visit to the archive of Mr Mandela’s private papers.
The Foundation’s chief executive, Mr Sello Hatang, led the tour.
He said afterwards: “We are honoured to share an important part of Madiba’s legacy with leaders who respect that legacy so profoundly.”
