4 October, 2011 – The 11th Mandela Day container library was opened at the Nobuntu Senior Primary School in Dimbaza, near King William’s Town on Friday 30 September 2011.
Here is an account from Linda Buswell and Cleon Lategan, two Breadline African staff members who attended the opening ceremony.
As guests arrived, they could see the container from the road and there was a hive of activity as preparation for the official launch was finalised.Learners from the school had painted signs and logos on the library especially for the occasion. The ceremony started at about 10am. Dignitaries from the Department of Education were welcomed to the school by a parade of students and the school band. Reverend Maboza read the opening prayer and a verse from the Bible, in Xhosa.
