November 24, 2009 – Nelson Mandela visited his offices in Houghton today to present nine members of staff with certificates in recognition of their 10-years of service to the Nelson Mandela Foundation, as well as to meet the new members of staff.

The Foundation’s CEO, Achmat Dangor, speaking before the handover of the certificates, welcomed the Foundation’s Board of Trustees and guests before paying tribute to the Foundation’s 10-year staffers who have been with the Foundation since it was established 10 years ago.

“To witness 10 years with any organisation is a momentous occasion,” said Dangor. “The Nelson Mandela Foundation is focusing on consolidating its core work, which is the Foundation’s Centre of Memory and Dialogue. We commend people who continue to work hard to achieve this goal.”

Handing over the certificates were Information and Communications Manager Sello Hatang and Foundation Board of Trustees member Tokyo Sexwale.

The nine staff members – Ethel Arends, Patience Buthelezi, Zelda La Grange, Jacqueline Maggott, Thoko Mavuso, Sibongile Kathy Ndebele, Elsie Ndlovu, Boniswa Qabaka and Buyi Sishuba – were presented with certificates in recognition of their years of service to the Foundation before having a photograph taken with Mr Mandela and Sexwale. Maretha Slabbert received the award in absentia.

The new members of staff – Denise Williams, Kerileng Marumo, Siviwe Khaba, Lesley Nkosi, Zintle Bambata, Peter Moitse and Lucia Raadschelders – then had the opportunity to introduce themselves to Mr Mandela, before having a photo taken with him.
