We are deeply saddened to hear of the untimely passing of Xolani Gwala. We send our condolences to his partner, Peggy-Sue Khumalo, their four children, his family and his friends.
Xolani was a highly respected broadcaster, commentator and dialogue facilitator and we always enjoyed working with him. Peggy-Sue was one of the first beneficiaries of a scholarship from Madiba and has been a good friend to the Foundation over the years.
We feel the pain of this moment acutely.
“I’d like to send my deepest condolences and love to my dear friend and my sister, Peggy-Sue and to the children on the passing of a dear friend, Xolani Gwala. I’ll always remember Xolani for what he was to me and to the Nelson Mandela Foundation. He was a friend to the Foundation that never ever hesitated whenever you called asking for him to come through and help. Xolani passed at a time when it is not fashionable to be polite. Yet his calm nature didn’t make him forget that he was a professional who needed to ask difficult questions without rudeness. And I’m hoping we learn some key lessons from Xolani and that he will forever rest in peace.”
- Sello Hatang, Chief Executive of the Nelson Mandela Foundation
Xolani will be missed. We join many in saying hamba kahle to an outstanding South African.
