The Nelson Mandela Foundation has learnt of an email scam that is currently doing the rounds. The email, which claims to come from the Nelson Mandela Foundation, asks people to donate money to support Mr Mandela’s work.
Asked for money to assist sick, abandoned and orphaned children as well as those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, potential donors are told to send an email to nelsonmandelafoundation@hotmail.com.
The email also falsely claims that the Foundation will be hosting a conference in February 2011, to be broadcast on CNN.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation does not send unsolicited emails and does not request donations via email. All donations made to the Foundation are through our online donation portal on our website or through our resource development department.
Any email asking for donations is fraudulent and should be treated with suspicion.
