Media invitation to cover:
Tiger Brands, Mandela Day food parcel project, Mpumalanga
Over 13 400 learners to receive much-needed food security over the December holidays
Issued for and on behalf of Tiger Brands.
On 10 December 2014, the Tiger Brands Foundation, in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Department of Basic Education, will be distributing over 13 400 food parcels to learners for the December school-holiday period.
The distribution will take place at Mthayiza Primary School in Kabokweni, Mpumalanga. This is one of the 62 schools that benefit from the Tiger Brands Foundation’s in-school breakfast feeding programme.
The purpose of the Tiger Brands Food Parcel programme is to supply the learners and their families with basic food supply for the December school holidays. This will ensure that the learners do not return to school at the beginning of the 2014 school year malnourished.
Thanks to the Tiger Brands Foundation’s in-school breakfast feeding programme and the Department of Basic Education’s National School Nutrition Programme, learners receive a nutritional breakfast and a cooked lunch every school day of the year.
Both the breakfast and lunch school nutrition programmes are facilitated and managed through the in-school feeding programme, which means the children do not receive either meal during weekends and school holidays.
“Our children are the rock on which our future will be built, our greatest asset as a nation. They will be the leaders of our country, the creators of our national wealth, those who care for and protect our people.” – Nelson Mandela
