"Given the passing of our beloved grandfather on 5 December last year, as a special tribute we decided to start our Mandela Day project early this year," said Nandi Mandela, Director of Linda Masinga & Associates, a development planning and project management enterprise.
"With a view to sincerely making every day a Mandela Day, Linda Masinga & Associates (LMA) built and donated a house to a destitute family living in Mombeni, near Eshowe in KwaZulu-Natal."
LMA is in the process of building low-cost houses in a rural area of Mombeni. With the assistance of the Mayor of Umlalazi Municipality, Councillor TB Zulu, an impoverished family from the area was identified as a beneficiary of a new home.
"When the house was completed and after the family had moved in, we closed our office and made a trip to Eshowe to meet Mrs Mzimela, who is now a proud new home owner," she added.
The Mzimela family was identified by the Mayor of Umlalazi Municipality (Eshowe) as a destitute family within the municipality and in dire need of a new home, hence the donation. Mrs Mzimela's husband passed away a few years back and she lives with her three children and one grandchild. Before the house was donated to her family, she lived in two dilapidated rondavels, which leaked badly during the rainy season.
Mrs Mzimela does not currently have a job and has been unemployed for a long time. She is able to make ends meet through temporary jobs from the neighbouring homes, where she provides cleaning services. Their first born (Zinhle), who is now 30 years old, is a domestic worker, while the second born is in Grade 11 (Ncebo) and the last born is in Grade 9 (Nhlakanipho). Her grandchild (Fezeka) is in pre-school.
Given that we are approaching the winter season, Linda Masinga & Associates also donated a warm blanket to the family.
The family are most grateful for their new home and are delighted to have a decent roof above their heads.
