From the success of the 2018 Legacy Walk, Kaya FM has decided to do it again this year. The 2019 Legacy Walk will be held at Mushroom Park in Sandton on the 12th of October.
The Legacy Walk is designed to celebrate and honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela and enjoy the freedoms he played a vital role in bringing to South Africans and other parts of the continent. Along the 6.7km route, walkers and runners will have the opportunity to pause and reflect on values and principles that have come to embody the spirit of Madiba at the cue of installed billboards: Service and Care, Peace, Democracy, Harmony & Unity, Freedom and Dignity, Social Justice and Fairness.
In 2009, Kaya FM was one of the first commercial radio stations to support Nelson Mandela International Day where they made a 67-year commitment to support the work of the Foundation. The Legacy Walk is an expression of that commitment and, as such, the proceeds of the Legacy Walk go to fund the work of the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
This year, Gregory Maloka, Managing Director of Kaya FM, will be participating in the Legacy Walk and has pledged to run the route twice and walk it four times over. At the end of the race, Afropolitans will enjoy music from Kaya FM DJs and a food market for the whole family.
Come spend the day with us as we celebrate Madiba’s legacy.
Runners will commence at 07h00, with walkers being given a 07h30 start time. No participants may commence the walk/run after 07h45.
