Invitation to cover: Rule of Law and Constitutionalism – A Dialogue
Date of invite: 29 June 2022
From: Nelson Mandela Foundation
Publishing date: 28 June 2022
The Nelson Mandela Foundation in association with the Hanns Seidel Foundation invites you to a dialogue on the Rule of Law and Constitutionalism, with the Deputy National Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Anton du Plessis, being the keynote speaker.
The Dialogue will reflect on how the rule of law is being stress tested in South Africa. Devastating public violence, rising crime, and continuing manifestations of state capture are putting institutions of justice under increasing pressure to ensure that accountability is the norm and not the exception. Public patience is wearing thin. Foundation Chief Executive Sello Hatang will speak about the Foundation’s work in KwaZulu-Natal since the outbreak of public violence in that province in July 2021.
Respondents to Du Plessis and Hatang will be Professor Sandy Africa (University of Pretoria) and Ms Ottilia Maunganidze (Institute of Security Studies).
