The Nelson Mandela Foundation, in partnership with The Book People, today launched its book drive initiative, which aims to collect
67 000 books and promote literacy over the next three months.
As 5 December marks a year since our beloved Madiba’s passing, the project was created to help continue his work in seeing that all citizens have access to a quality education. Literacy is one of the most fundamental building blocks in this pursuit.
For the next three months, all books bought on The Book People website will be donated to the book drive and then find their way to impoverished schools and communities around South Africa.
“We all have a responsibility as parents, as caregivers, as educators, as leaders and as citizens, to instill in our children the critical drive for literacy and learning, so that we can give them the chance to fulfil their dreams,” says The Book People’s Russell Nelson.
All you need to do is register on the website by filling in your name, surname, email address and contact details.
Browse the titles, and when you’ve find your desired publication, click “add to cart”. Follow the prompts to complete your transaction and make a difference in someone’s life.
In line with the philosophy of Mandela Day, every person has the power to make an impact and inspire change.
“The book drive gives people everywhere the perfect opportunity to pay tribute to Madiba’s legacy and follow his example in helping to make this world a better place for all,” says Manager of Mandela Day and Outreach at the Foundation, Yase Godlo.
