December 4, 2009 – The Nelson Mandela Foundation learned with sadness about the passing away yesterday of Curtis Nkondo. An educationist and activist, Curtis was involved in many crucial struggles during the 1970s and 1980s.
In 1983 he was elected as one of the founding vice-presidents of the United Democratic Front (UDF) and in 1985 he served as chair of the Release Mandela Campaign. Following the country’s first democratic elections in 1994, he became a member of the Gauteng Legislature, and he was later appointed South Africa’s High Commissioner to Namibia.
On behalf of our Founder and our Board of Trustees, we wish to extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
