On 23 February 2015, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and Cotton On Foundation will launch an interactive Mandela Day Library at Valley Farm School on the Altydgedacht Wine Estate in Durbanville, the Western Cape, on 23 February 2015.
A key local Mandela Day campaign partner, the Cotton On Foundation aims to enrich the lives of children through contributions towards educational development and literacy in South Africa.
South Africa’s democratic vision is about making it possible to give our youth a fighting chance – that is, the opportunity to own their future. Education is still the foundation of this opportunity.
The most basic building block that holds that foundation together is still literacy. At the dawn of the 21st century, in a world where knowledge truly is power and literacy is the skill that unlocks the gates of opportunity and success, we all have a responsibility as parents, as caregivers, as educators, as leaders and as citizens, to instil in our children the critical drive for literacy and learning so that we can give them the chance to fulfil their dreams.

The Foundation’s mandate, together with strategic partners like The Cotton On Foundation, is to relevantly and tangibly use memory to inform, develop and define. It is the role of an embracing educator – whether you are an adult or a child - to utilise the history, experience, values, vision and leadership of our late Founder, Nelson Mandela, to provide an impactful platform and springboard to drive positive change.
