On 19 May 2015, the Cotton On Foundation, in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation (NMF) and the Department of Basic Education (DBE), handed over a Mandela Day Container Library to the learners and their families of Bovet Primary in Johannesburg.
On Friday 22 May 2015, they will hand over a library to Thekweni Primary.
As one of the NMF’s Mandela Day partners, the Cotton On Foundation aims to contribute towards enriching the lives of children, by the enhancing of learning through literacy and education in South African communities.
The Cotton On Foundation has contributed to the call of nation building, and as an Australian organisation has contributed to the South African National Development Plan’s (NDP) call to improve on the levels of literacy and education.
“Established in 2007, the Cotton On Foundation believes education and opportunity hold the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and aims to build healthy and sustainable futures for communities in need, across the globe,” says Foundation General Manager, Tim Diamond.
“We are honoured at the Nelson Mandela Foundation to be working with such a dynamic, unique and inspiring organisation that shares our values and beliefs. Together we will have a huge impact and create positive change for the people of South Africa, every day,” said Nelson Mandela Foundation Chief Executive Officer Sello Hatang.
Bovet Primary and Batsogile are the third and fourth of five schools in South Africa to receive a container library donated by the Cotton On Foundation, in May 2015. Currently they are partners in a book drive to collect second hand children’s books for the Mandela Day Literacy for Leadership Project 2015. Collection bins have been placed at a number of Cotton On Superstores nationwide.
