Visitors find out how the comic series is produced at the Nelson Mandela Foundation stand
The Nelson Mandela Foundation and Umlando showcased the successful Madiba Legacy Comic Series at the World Library and Information Congress held in Durban, South Africa, in August.
In addition to handing out nearly 10 000 copies of the comic series to delegates at the conference, Umlando, the comic series publishers, set up computers to show delegates how the comics were designed and produced.
“Our display attracted a lot of international and local interest,” says Mrs Nyati, Information Resource Officer at the Nelson Mandela Foundation. She said Department of Education representatives asked whether the Foundation could supply all South African libraries with Madiba comics. “They would love their kids to know about their leaders’ lives,” she said.
Mrs Nyati says many people enquired about the book version of the series, as well as the seventh comic in the eight-part series, entitled President–In-Waiting, which is due out at the end of September.
