The Nelson Mandela Foundation is partnering with the Bled Strategic Forum international conference on a session entitled, "Reconciliation: Learning from the Past to Build a More Just Future". The session will transpire during the two-day conference, themed A World of Parallel Realities", which will take place in the picturesque alpine setting of Lake Bled, Slovenia, from 2 - 3 September 2024.
The Bled Strategic Forum is a global platform for generating ideas and exchanging views on contemporary society and its future. It is committed to creating a sustainable world by offering strategic views and solutions to the most pressing issues of today and tomorrow. As a platform of inclusivity and diversity, it strives to bring together as many different stakeholders as possible and disseminate their views.
The panel discussion which the Foundation is partnering on will be moderated by South African journalist Redi Tlhabi and will include panellists Former Justice Albie Sachs, Nasser Kamel who is the Secretary General of the Union of the Mediterranean, as well as Reem Hajajreh, Founder and Director of Women of the Sun – Palestine.
The panel discussion will reflect on the importance of documenting conflict to later serve as a basis for the reconciliation process. It will also touch upon the concept of reconciliation, its universality and applicability as well as the need to accompany reconciliation with justice. Other key points the panel will also delve into is the role of international actors in strengthening and supporting national initiatives for reconciliation in other countries as well as how to promote reconciliation in an inclusive and locally driven manner that will lead to lasting peace.
