Central Street in Houghton, Johannesburg literally hummed, roared and reverberated as hundreds of bikers from clubs, fraternities and communities across the country gathered at the Nelson Mandela Foundation on Sunday, 15 December to pay their last respects to South Africa’s much-loved icon.
In a final and touching homage to the great man fondly known as Khulu, the Bikers for Mandela Day community, along with marshals from JMPD and the Tshwane Traffic Department, collaborated in a tremendous send off – a ride from Johannesburg to Pretoria that signified the bikers’ final goodbye the man who touched so many people’s lives.
The Foundation would like to thank the Bikers for Mandela Day and stalwarts Zelda la Grange and Alta Brown for coordinating such a touching tribute, and would like to recognise and acknowledge the heartfelt contribution made by all bikers, Think Bike representatives and marshals, JMPD and Tshwane Traffic Department officials for such a wonderful event.
