The Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory is pleased to announce that on Tuesday 28 May 2013, Professor Njabulo S. Ndebele was unanimously elected Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory. Prof. Ndebele had been serving as Acting Chairman since the passing of Prof. Jakes Gerwel in November last year.
His election was announced to the staff of the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory on the same day as a gathering to bid farewell to outgoing CEO Achmat Dangor. Dangor's successor, Sello Hatang, who takes the reins on Saturday, was welcomed at the same gathering.
"We are grateful that we have Prof. Ndebele's wisdom and experience to guide us into the future," said Hatang. "He is committed to ensuring that the institution continues to promote the legacy of our founder, Nelson Mandela."
Prof. Ndebele, who is also the Chairman of the Centre's sister organisation the Mandela Rhodes Foundation, said: "I am proud to assume the role as Chairman of the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory into the future. I have no doubt that the Board and staff, under the leadership of Sello Hatang, will ensure the centre takes its place as the go-to organisation on the life and times of Nelson Mandela. It will continue to preserve Madiba's legacy."
