On 6 December 2015 poets, writers, performers and musicians gathered in an open session led by Professor Njabulo Ndebele, Chairman of the Nelson Mandela Foundation at the Foundation’s Centre of Memory, 107 Central Street, Houghton, Johannesburg.

As part of the activities surrounding the commemoration of the first anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s passing the Nelson Mandela Foundation Centre in Houghton, Johannesburg hosted an Artists’ Tribute to Madiba on Saturday morning, December 6. Among the contributors was singer and guitarist, Berita Khumalo of Kensington who performed three spellbinding songs.

Six-year-old Lamia Ruby Khan of Buccleuch participates in an Artists’ Tribute to Madiba hosted by the Nelson Mandela Foundation Centre in Houghton, Johannesburg on Saturday morning, December 6 . Lamia joined a group of youngsters from the Art of Excellence Benoni Campus Mything Mandela Project as they preformed a song and dance number for guests during the tribute event which formed part of the many activities held, since December 5, to commemorate former President Nelson Mandela’s passing a year ago.

On Saturday, December 6 they returned to the centre to remember Madiba a year after his passing.
