The Nelson Mandela Foundation, together with the South African History Archive (SAHA), launched the UDF Virtual Exhibition in August 2008 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the United Democratic Front (UDF).
20 August 2013 marked its 30th anniversary. SAHA added additional material to the original exhibition to celebrate this milestone – the UDF Virtual Exhibition can now be viewed on the SAHA website.
The United Democratic Front was formed in 1983 to mobilise South Africans in the struggle for a democratic, united, non-racial and non-sexist country. The UDF drew together hundreds of organisations representing women, youth, communities and anti-apartheid struggles, and became a vital link with the banned ANC.
