Scott, Mpho

In the mid-1980s Scott was Secretary of SADTU in Natal, Branch Secretary of COSAS and Publicity Secretary for Natal of COSAS. He was involved in the Lamontville Youth Organisation and helped to set up the Natal Youth Forum.   He was the Co-ordinator of the Regional Education Crisis Committee and was active in the UDF.  He was imprisoned from 1986 – 1988 and under house arrest from 1988 – 1989. He was recruited into Operation Vula in 1988.

In the early 1990s he worked at the Centre for Community & Labour Studies at Natal University, and from 1991 – 1994 he was Secretary of the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal.  He was part of the Interim Regional Structure of the SACP.   He was involved in the negotiations at CODESA for the ANC and in 1994 became an ANC MP.
