This resource is hosted by the Nelson Mandela Foundation, but was compiled and authored by Padraig O’Malley. It is the product of almost two decades of research and includes analyses, chronologies, historical documents, and interviews from the apartheid and post-apartheid eras.

Mvelase, Dipuo

Dipuo Mvelase was born and educated in Alexandra Township. She became involved in student politics in 1980.

After the hanging of some MK cadres in 1983 she left South Africa in order to join the armed struggle and was recruited into the ANC and the SACP.  She spent four years in Angola where she was trained and became a political instructor. In 1987 she moved to Botswana.

She was the deputy leader of the MK delegation to the ANC conference at Kabwe in 1985.

She was recruited into Operation Vula from Botswana.  In 1990 she was arrested, detained and tortured.
