Commissioner of Police KwaZulu/Natal

In 1987 the press described him as "a top South African police expert on the ANC", who stated that the ANC had "no infrastructure here. They have some 3000 people outside, of whom roughly 30 are active at any time in SA."

He was a Brigadier, then a two-star General by 1992.

His mentor was Bartholomew Hlopane who educated him about the workings of the Communist Party.

He served nearly 40 years in the SAP: he was a career policeman.

He was named as a witness in the Magnus Malan case, but was never called to testify.

He retired before the 1994 elections.
