1952. Criminal Sentences Amendment Act No 33

This made whipping "compulsory punishment for rape (where the death sentence was not imposed), robbery, aggravated assault, and house-breaking" (Dugard 1978: 131). See also the CRIMINAL LAW AMENDMENT ACT of 1953 and the CRIMINAL PROCEDURE & EVIDENCE AMENDMENT ACT of 1955.
